Some hydro and gas generating utilities are owned and operated by government agencies, others by private industry. At the same time, management is still responsible to provide a continuing series of generic training programs such as confined spaces, fire prevention, lockout/tagout procedures, and respiratory safety. But, while utilities are basically manufacturers, there is one major difference. With the public very concerned about global warming and greenhouse gases, utilities are being seen as major polluters.
