Safety, through Awareness Focus and Education
Inescapable messaging is the cornerstone of the SafetyWorld's S*A*F*E* Program -- S*afety A*wareness F*ocus and E*ducation.
This S*A*F*E* program is based on a study developed by Stanford university, which discovered changing behavior through "inescapable messaging". Five medium sized towns were selected for the study. Two were blanketed with messaging about healthy eating and exercising regularly to reduce heart disease. The other towns did not receive any messaging. They noticed that the town who was receiving the messaging experienced a drop in heart related illness and death rates, while the other town's illness and death rates remained the same. The study concluded that people can learn to behave more safely if they are educated as to how to behave.
Regular inescapable awareness messaging can help reduce injuries in the workplace. Here is an article describing this type of learning.
