Lifting and Carrying

Lower back pain is reputedly the second leading cause of absenteeism with improper lifting techniques responsible for a large percentage of back injuries.  Proper lifting and carrying methods offer protection against such injuries.

Employees must be taught to "think" what they are going to do before picking up an object.  Safe lifting techniques must become a habit, even when lifting light objects.

Here are seven simple rules to reduce manual handling risks. If such hazards do exist in your workplace, these Safety Outlines also show  how to begin the process of analysing manual handling hazards in order to eliminate them.
